SInce it's written by a Japanese master, it shows signs of zen -- C-z  
T will hide/toggle the tips so all the pixels are yours...  while the  
screens are still there!

In fact, elscreen solves another problem -- it saves window  
configurations consisting of several such screens, e.g. a w3m  
session, a dired/editing setup, etc.
